Why the BO Trojan is a Threat
to
Unwary Windows Users
Did you see a dialog
box like this pop up on your screen asking you to email someone?

Well, this is the
least intrusive function that BO makes possible and the quickest
way to inform you about BO on your computer!
If you are one of those
very rare people who never stores anything in the Windows
95/98 password list cache you're lucky! Using the BO
client, anyone else in the world may have seen your password cache
which BO easily decrypts for them! Of course, they also could have read any
other files that contain passwords too. So, the next
thing you should do (after removing BO) is
change your passwords! That definitely includes
any for which you checked a little box when asked "save your
password?"
If you think a
person possibly knowing your passwords is scary, you should be
thankful that you could still boot up your computer!
Here are
some other things that could have been done:
- A File Listing of any Directory on your computer could have
been made.
- Any file on your computer could have been ERASED, VIEWED, or
DOWNLOADED; although, the larger the file, the less likely this
would be.
- New files, especially viruses, could have
been uploaded and installed! Implication: A modified
form of BO could be on your computer as well. (Note:
More than one instance of BO can operate at the same time!)
- DIRECTORIES could have been Created, or DELETED.
- Every entry in your REGISTRY could be Deleted or Changed,
and new ones Added to it!
- A keylog file could have been created to read whatever you
were typing at your keyboard!
So, is this enough incentive to eradicate this thing?!
