Using PGP to Verify File Authenticity

This page contains my Public Key and some illustrations of the PGP 6.0 Freeware program in use. You may obtain the latest copy of the program (now at version 6.5.2) from this site:

( NOTE: This version of the PGP Freeware program is available ONLY for Canadian and United States citizens living at home; due to its high level of encryption, Government restrictions apply to exporting! )

However, an INTERNATIONAL version of PGP is available at: http://www.pgpi.org/ .

PGP Freeware 6.5.2 is for Windows 95/98/NT, and even a file for Macintosh users. There's a Command Line version for NT, Linux and other OSs. Please visit this page to see what's new in version 6.5 : http://www.swiss.ai.mit.edu/projects/mac/PGP/.

NOTE: Although I had been looking forward to using this version's new "Self-Decrypting Archives," I was disappointed to find once again the company has increased the size of an already large file (5532KB) to an even greater size (8,000+ KB) in order to add features that MOST OF us will never use: like PGPNet! This requires a functioning DOMAIN SERVER IP# to connect to! (Not just another Net user with PGP 6.5; as I had hoped!)

(The freeware program used to be made available directly from Network Associates website at: http://www.nai.com/, but it appears they are no longer doing so.)

PGP 6.0 provides you with these tools:

PGP Keys
Encrypt Files (or Email)
Sign Files (or Email)
Encrypt & Sign Files (or Email)
Decrypt/Verify Files (or Email)
Wipe any Files (so they can't be recovered!)
Wipe Free Space (floppies or hard drives)

You can search for my Public Key at the PGP Key Servers using either "The Starman" or my PGP ID number: " 0xC5E0ADD0 ".

Although there has been an easy PGP key lookup function to a certified server at pgp.net built into PGP since version 5, there are still a number of other PGP Key Servers located in various countries which can help you verify a person's Public Key. A good place to begin looking is: http://pgp5.ai.mit.edu/ (New window).

Click on the Extract a key link there for all the instructions, or simply click on the gray "Do the search!" button in the example form below:
